He works broadly within an extended evolutionary framework and employs a range of field, chronometric and computational tools in order to relate climate, environment, and culture change to each other. Currently, he focuses on the human impacts of rapid environmental changes and natural hazards on past communities, and on the emergence of novel ecosystems past, present, and future.
